A Layout to Attract a New Kind of Client: Using Tarot to Discover Your Market

I have worked with the Voyager Tarot by James Wanless for years. It’s a beautiful system that brings together the Crowley Thoth tradition with New Age innovation.  He’s also a great tarot educator and has written several books.

I’m currently working with one of his books: Strategic Intuition for the 20th Century: Tarot for Business. It’s fantastic guide that gives a business interpretation for each tarot card and includes creative ways to use tarot spreads. The Major Arcana cards (like the Hermit) relate to human resources. The Minor Arcana (excluding the court cards) suggest possible management decisions. The Court Cards (with names like Woman, Man,Seer, etc.) help create sales by identifying your market.

Recently, a friend experienced a drop-off in business. She seemed to be unable to attract new clients or repeat customers, although her product is more sophisticated and helpful than ever. I asked the tarot if her client profile was changing. I’ve created a layout that tries to track the spiritual/evolutionary message behind this problem. It’s an adaptation of a fantastic spirit guide spread that I discovered on Aeclectic Tarot Forum. Here is the spread:

What is your higher guidance trying to tell you about your clients that you have not understood?

What has your higher guidance successfully communicated to you?

What is it about your new client that you need to understand?

So this is the reading I did for my friend:

What is your higher guidance trying to tell you about her clients that you have not understood?

The Hermit

The Hermit represents quality control on all levels. You may not realize that your new “ideal” client is learning to live with integrity and simplicity.  They want their work to reflect their values. You are helping them to refine this process. They are trying to release old patterns that have prevented this. There is an image of the full moon in this card. Your client may want to work with you for a couple of months to complete a project.

What has your higher guidance successfully communicated to you?

Six of Cups/Sorrow

Something old has to be let go of in order to be reborn. Your memory (elephants on vase) of how to attract clients is not as useful as it once was.

Death

You are letting go of old patterns in attracting new clients and going for the essence. The New Guinea death mask in this card has a knife nose that symbolizes paring down what you look for in a client. The old process is over and is being transformed. A photo of the Snake River is in this card. The Snake River image indicates movement or possible travel may be in your future.

What is it about your new client that you need to understand?

Sensor/Woman of Wands

Your new type of client is a woman who connects with her natural “wildness” through self-expression, healing, movement, or ritual. She is a kinesthetic person who integrates life by taking action. She is interested in empowerment and physical vitality. She is governed by the fire element (wands).

Overall, I think the reading indicates that my friend’s practice is changing. This is a type of death and she has felt some sadness, as what has once worked no longer does.

I feel she is now being guided to attract a new type of client. This client may only work with her for a few months. My friend may be traveling soon in order to see clients.
